Imagine a real-life ‘Fame Academy’: a performing arts ‘gym’ where young people from across London, whatever their level of ability, can live their dream and develop their talents as a singer, dancer or musician in a supportive, non-judgemental environment.

In October 2007, this exciting vision becomes reality when the Talent Academy opens its doors to around 1,000 young people aged between 11 and 24. Specialising in music creation, vocals and dance, it will offer state-of-the-art facilities and high quality professional coaching. Located in the inspiring setting of a beautiful converted concert hall the Academy will be easily accessible to all young Londoners.

But what makes this Academy unique is its inclusive ethos. The Talent Academy is not a school but a membership club, where applicants of all levels of talent and skill are welcomed, and there are no barriers to entry.

This means that young people who wouldn’t normally have access to a performing arts school – such as those who can’t afford to study full-time, or lack academic qualifications - can still follow their dreams. Those with the talent to become ‘stars’ will benefit from first-rate mentoring, but everyone will have the chance to develop their skills and confidence.

The Talent Academy sets no academic qualification for membership and offers no formal qualifications. Instead, 7 days a week, it makes available to all members its modern technology, facilities and equipment, a raft of specialist coaches, instructors and trainers and an environment which allows them to develop to the level they wish, at their own pace.

Young people can literally use the TA like a ‘gym’ to give their performing muscles a workout. They can access the classes, workshops, coaches and facilities of their choice. You can join one of the dance or vocal classes, held every hour on a rotational basis and catering for all levels of expertise. Alternately, you can use the multi-track recording equipment, audio-visual production facilities or practice spaces. Book a personal coaching or training session. Or simply relax in the lounge and meet other performers.

All sessions offer open-entrance and open-exit and members are free to choose their activity. Members pay a one-off membership fee and can then pay a monthly subscription or ‘pay as they go’ for the subjects they choose.

The rotational hourly classes and the fact that the Academy is open until 10pm means that classes will work around normal day to day commitments such as work and school. This flexibility means the Talent Academy can meet the needs of students at all levels of proficiency – from the skilled musician needing access to the latest technology, to the absolute beginner who wants personal training. Courses will cover all you need to know to become a professional performer, from contracts and copyright to make-up and styling.
